The worldwide ChildSafe Network involves members of all tiers of society and the international community to protect children from all forms of abuse.

The ChildSafe Network is a Friends-International Initiative for the Protection of children and is designed to:

1. Participate in the global reduction in the number of children having to live and work on the streets
2. Improve the protection of children from all forms of abuse
3. Increase society’s involvement in the protection of children

Children worldwide, especially street children, are at high risk of being abused. Abuse and risk situations for children include: domestic violence, unsafe migration which can lead to trafficking, various forms of exploitation including sexual and labor, and drug use.

Travelers unwillingly and unknowingly often increase the vulnerability of street children by giving directly to the children. We want to encourage travelers to look at the situation differently and provide them with alternatives so that they actively participate in helping children move away from life on the streets.

In Laos, ChildSafe is working with the Lao National Tourism Association to implement ChildSafe practices in Vientiane, Luang Prabang and other provinces in Laos.
