The VIS senior soccer team competed well in this year’s MRISA, hosted by ISPP from January 28-30 in Phnom Penh.

The boys played disciplined, well organized football on the first day, beating International School of Ho Chi Minh City, drawing with International School Eastern Seaboard Thailand and losing a hard fought 1-0 encounter to the eventual tournament winners, International School of Phnom Penh.

The strong showing meant that they went through to the finals round on Saturday.  Unfortunately, our VIS team got into yellow card and injury trouble, which tested the team’s resources. In the semi final, VIS struggled with discipline and was overwhelmed by a strong United Nations School Hanoi side.

The VIS team should be commended for the determination they showed in the 3rd place game, playing without any substitutes and controlling the game.

Unfortunately, VIS missed a number of chances in the second half and lost a close decision to Northbridge International School Cambodia.

The VIS team finished fourth overall.

At the end of tournament banquet, the VIS versus ISPP game, from the first round, was singled out by the tournament director as one of the highlight games of the tournament.

Maurice Schill, from VIS, was selected as one of the tournament’s MVPs.

ACVientiane would like to congratulate VIS on their strong showing and hope to see more success in the future.
