1 Vision 1 Purpose

As a teenager, our thinking is of a different way from our parents, including our perspectives.  Our ‘teenage dreams’ were recently supported by Fang Meh Khong who organized a B-boy battle on the 26th of January.  As far as we know, ”B” stands for breakdance, a type of dance that is totally unique which has its roots in African dance  and came to prominence with the  hip-hop culture. Now it is acknowledged as a world class dancing style that requires strength, flexibility and creativity – just like life as a teenager!

But the adults don’t really dig this new style where you dress up like gangs.  Talk about math,99% of adults think breakdance is nothing more than a bunch of gangs mopping the floor(laugh). But nevermind, I diverge.  The battle was held in the culture hall of Vientiane. The stage is well organized and I wonder how  they got the Vietnamese DJ to come over here for an epic battle.

What a beautiful way to ‘battle’.  No aggression, no fighting.  Lao, Thailand, China, Myanmar and France all ‘attacking’ with headspins and funky breaks.

Here’re the rules -  the DJ will tune up a random song and there will be 3 rounds at once(about 3 mins each). Each team must have 3 breakers to compete and they will go solo, not the casual show up style. Many people don’t know much about Lao so this is the time to know a bit more. Some teams even have girls that dance just as good as boy or better. They all  show off with cool and somewhat crazy hairstyles. The game is simple – the group with the best moves win.

They show off all kind of cool power moves. Top rocks and down rocks are applied (wheck out Wikipedia for breakers vocabulary!). Every now and then I hear people scream for more. In addition, there are Lao rappers and the Lao Bang Fai(a popping team) to be there to spice up the battle to the MAX. And so on, the battle keeps getting more and more heat as the teams moving to the champion. The Lao guys are impressive.  On the whole, they ROCK!

The event is a battle full of friendship.  All the teams tried their best to bring the fun to the fans. I believe these dancers have the potential to be pros in the near future – and to build bonds between the youth of the world.

MAXIMUM FUN!

Buffalos / Lions Team Wins Inaugural ‘Tug of War’ at WIG Bazaar.

Sportsmanship, friendly atmosphere, sees Corinthian Social Club (CSC) / Phongsavanh Bank (PSVB) Team narrowly beaten in a hard fought tug finale.

Tug o’ War Report.

Seven teams, split into two groups, and all to play for. The inaugural WIG Bazaar ‘Tug of War’ competition got underway. With the whittling chirrupy lull in the background of the sounds from the insects of the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha, in the superfamily Cicadoidea, known as Circada, the stage was set.

The first pulls between the Corinthian/PSVB Team and the Buffalos/Lions Team set the tone for the afternoon with all teams full of commitment and bluster. No quarter was given by any of the teams, no surrender to the throbbing pain in their chaffed hands and aching muscles....
